Chronicling Our Journey in Our RV & With Each Other
Sep. 15 - 20, 2024: Door County Peninsula, Wisconsin, RV Trip
Thursday Sep. 19 - Newport State Park, Sister Bay & Goats!
Wanted to do some hiking so we went to Newport State Park in Ellison Bay, WI. They had a few well reviewed trails. We decided on the Fern Trail which transitioned into the Lynd Point Loop.
Went back to Sister Bay to check out the stores to the north. Bonnie found a couple interesting ones. As we were walking we noticed live goats on the grass roofs of Skäl and Stabbur. This made us realize we had seen a goat "statue" on the roof driving through one time, but it was gone when we returned. We assumed that it had been a joke, but the wait staff confirmed that these were live goats that they let go on the roof to graze the grass and for entertainment. There were up to seven goats at one time while we were there.
Apparently the goats were part of the Scandinavian cultural traditions brought over years ago, but were mostly a tourist attraction now.
That was pretty much the end of the sojourns in Door County Peninsula, Wisconsin. We headed back to the RV, packed up most everything and got a good nights rest.
The next morning we had minimal issues wrapping it all up, disconnecting everything and hitching up. Had an uneventful trip back except for the usual crap in Milwaukee traffic.
All in all a fantastic shakedown cruise.
